Personal Statement
Fighting for my life, at birth, with tubes running through my body in the neonatal intensive care unit was my first experience on earth. Nobody thought I would make it, but there’s a reason why perseverance and tenacity run through my veins. It’s only by God’s grace that I’m here today, and I have no doubt that my life is full of purpose.
Throughout my undergraduate journey, I successfully balanced working and being involved on campus through multiple clubs and organizations while pursuing my degrees. As a transfer student from the Seneff Honors College at Valencia College, I earned my associate’s degree in general studies and won the 2020 Mary S. Collier Distinguished Graduate award which came with the honor of giving the commencement speech on behalf of the graduating class.
My transition to the University of Central Florida (UCF) was seamless through the DirectConnect to UCF program. As a Burnett Honors College Scholar, I earned my bachelor’s degree in legal studies and won the Student Government Justice of the Year award. The joy I experienced from volunteering and connecting with my local community showed me that there is more to life than solely academic achievement.
My first two years of undergraduate studies were all about self-discovery:
Who am I? What can I do? What do I like? Where do I fit in?
My last two years of undergraduate studies were all about exploration:
This is new. I wonder what that’s about. It never hurts to try. Sign me up.
My next few years of graduate school, prayerfully, will be all about developing my professional career:
How can I improve? Where can I flourish? Who can I impact? What’s next?
